Jim Carpenter came to painting after decades of involvement with other art forms. He has worked as a dancer, actor, choreographer and stage director, as well as a theatre teacher and an administrator for the fine and performing arts. His paintings evoke the fascinations and concerns of a lifetime of artistic engagement, as well as the (often unwritten and unwritable) history of humanity: interior landscapes, drama, spiritualities (Eastern, Western, universal...), music, joy. His gaze has been transformed by light and color. By Italy and Japan. By art itself. He paints to discover, uncover, recoverto move, to heal.
Jim is a signature member of both the Florida Watercolor Society and the International Society of Acrylic Painters.
