Jim Carpenter paints in acrylic on paper. His paintings are powerful expressions of motifs from dance and theatre as well as scenes and still-lifes of the exterior and interior landscapes of his own past and that of his family. His many years as a dancer, choreographer, actor, director, theatre teacher, English teacher, and public school arts administrator continue to inform his painting. He studied painting and drawing at the Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia, and after moving to Gainesville FL, he studied with local artist and teacher Linda Pence. He has taken painting workshops with Carol Barnes, Pat Dews, Skip Lawrence, Susan Abbott, and Don Andrews, among others.
